The leather handle on the case for my '53 Fender Deluxe T8 is missing. Would the original have had the hump like the one below or just a flat strap?

Thanks Joe, that's exactly what I was looking for. As for fixing yours, there should be a square nut embedded in the wood on the inside of the case. You don't have to uncover it, just see if you can find the threads with the correct size machine screw. You could just remove the remaining screw from the other side of the broken bracket and take it to the hardware store to find a replacement for the missing one. Good luck.
