Austin's own Herb... dishing it up. Nobody works a crowd like Herb, he's entertaining as well as just downright awesome, pedals or not. Joined by our backline:

Carco Clave guitar
Charlie Irwin bass
Ron Erwin drums

The Texas Steel Guitar Association's Rick Alexander Sessions are held in memory of Rick Alexander, who ran the non-pedal room at the annual TSGA Jamboree for many years. You can find Rick's performance and instructional video on YT under the rickalexander47 and 'Rick Alexander 1947-2009' channels. Gone but not forgotten, thanks for your contributions Rick.

Nice playing, Herb! I especially like Rosetta. And your Sho-Bud Maverick (without the pedals) sounds excellent.

Thanks Doug (and everybody)! Yes, for all the badmouthing the Maverick gets on the Forum... undeserved IMHO... it makes a wonderful 10-string non-pedal guitar. I bought two for $600 each; one is non-pedal, the other held in reserve for future use. I may use the undercarriage and pedals from the non-pedal to upgrade Mav #2 with some more pedals/levers.

The Maverick, I will say, is no comparison in design, execution, look, sound and class to the masterpieces my friend Todd Clinesmith creates, but there are those amongst us for whom a Clinesmith guitar is financially out of reach. The Maverick is a lower-cost alternative while you save your pennies for one of his horns.

The Maverick with pedals is essentially an pull-release S-10 Permanent mechanically with a less ornate cabinet. I could play a whole evening's gig with one, and have. They're ripe for upgrading. I did put a Tonealigner pickup (available from forumite Bob Hoffnar) in the non-pedal guitar. BIG improvement over the less potent single coil SB p'up.

BTW, I am speaking of a 1st generation Maverick, not the later model with pot-metal parts, dustcatcher fretboards, and vinyl shelf paper covering. For non-pedal use they are adequate but don't have the mojo, IMHO.
