Yeah--I've done that on my Fess. I put an adjustable Bud barrel mid-point on a rod that hits a crank. It's not ideal but it totally works.

John, I'd suggest you contact Richard Burton. He's in England, and seems to know plenty about pedal steel mechanics. I'm sure he'd help you to get it straightened out. ;-)

Take your lower return spring off and stretch it a little. Worked like a charm on my Vintage XL and i had exactly the same problem.

Some folks respond to the OP and never look at the replies
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects
