Louis Meyers, long time Executive Director of Folk Alliance, and a great player of many different instruments including steel guitar, passed away last night from a heart attack.
He was a great guy, and will be sorely missed. |

I played in a band with Louis in about 1978,Louis was one of the founders of SXSW and a wonderful guy,This breaks my heart...

| I knew Louis when he was a very young man. We both attended the Hank Thompson School of Country Music at Claremore College, Claremore, OK. Louis played banjo in a school ensemble called "The Funny Band." They did mostly bluegrass tunes with a bit of folk mixed in. At the time, I saw him play guitar but he did not play or own a pedal steel to my knowledge. He was a nice guy and a good musician. This was 1975 / 1976. He must have taken up steel guitar later in his career. |
