Question for Tech21 Blonde pedal owners

Post by Sam Minnitti »

Hi,

I just got a Tech21 Blonde pedal and would love fellow owners to share their favorite settings.

Also, in terms of hook up, I'm Guitar--->Volume Pedal--->Blonde--->DM2 Delay--->WET reverb--->Aphex Xciter--->Tech21 Power Power Engine 60 (a powered speaker)

Look ok?

Thanks

This is how it is sitting right now. This setting is specific to the output amp which is not at all neutral (a Steel King set a little dark). I'll tweak the Blonde differently, tailored to the specific color or flatness of the amp. Dialing back the Character knob gets more into blackface colors with more lows and highs. If I'm really wanting pure and clean I'll dial back the Drive but a little drive is truer to the Fender sound.
The Treble setting starts introducing hissy white noise. I spoke with Lloyd Schwartz, the NYC voice of Tech 21, and he said that the tone controls really can't be looked at like Fender controls (1-10) Pushing past 12 o'clock does get noisy--I don't know or remember why.

I put all drive & mod fx before the Blonde and delay & reverb after.

Needless to say, play with it. You will find places not go, and zones where it sounds good.

My biggest criticism of the pedal is how dramatically the Character and Drive controls affect the output level. If you boost those knobs you absolutely have to compensate at the Level knob.
