Topic: Effects units for steel steel guitar |

| I have a stupid question. I have a chorus and a digital unit. How should I hook them up for my pedal steel guitar? Should I plug the chord into the steel guitar plug input and then run a chord to the delay and chorus units, and then plug a chord to the volume pedal input, or should I plug the chord from the output of the volume pedal and then plug the chord into the chorus and delay unit and then to the amp? Also, does anyone have a setting they use on the chorus and delay units Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much |

I'd put the chorus between the guitar and volume pedal.
If you MUST use the delay, it might go better after the volume pedal.
Chorus usually sounds better fairly quickly but too much depth. Depending on brand, I usually put the speed knob about 2 o'clock and the depth about 10

Here's my take on it. Modulation effects and Delays I run through the effects loop if I have one . Any gain related devices like overdrive distortion I put right after the pickup if possible .

John, Thanks for the info. I do not have an effects loop, but is that something that I could buy and add to my amp? Just wondering. Thank you.

You can get a "looper", but if your amp doesn't have a loop, just put the effects in line before the amp.
Depending on the amp, it is probably feasible for an amp tech to create loop, by interrupting the connection between the preamp and power amp stages (tube or solid state, they're ALWAYS different stages/sections, because power tubes/power transistors have different jobs and specifications than the preamp tubes/transistors), but looks like a waste of time and money to me.
