Any problem with converting a fender hotrod deville 410 to a 1x15? I have one, and I've been pondering this lately. the deville has 4 and 8 ohm outputs _________________ Proud parent of a good dog. |

You may want to try it with a 15" cab before having a replacement baffle made for your amp. I had the Hot Rod Deville 2x12" and tried that with a 15" cab loaded with a BW 1501-4, actually preferred the sound of the stock speaker configuration (the 15" sounded muddy to me). |

hmmm... the muddiness is kinda what I was worried about. I was also thinking about maybe replacing two of the speakers, with the thought that having two stock speakers and two different (upgraded) speakers might give the sound more depth, maybe a little extra character.
Maybe I just have to get over the "grass is always greener" aspect, and just be happy with what I have... because there is nothing really wrong with it, I'm just always pondering musical equipment projects I could invest more time and money into _________________ Proud parent of a good dog. |

Four tens move a lot more air than one fifteen.
I haven't played steel through one of those amps but have noodled around with a guitar through one. I liked it a whole bunch. I used to have a Super Reverb with JBL's in it. |

I think David has the right idea. Trying different cabinets instead of speaker swaps. I have a HRD 212 and the tone is warm and lush at low to low mid volumes, but the amp breaks up as soon as you push the volume. But, it's supposed to... Its a blues amp by design.
I switched out to a 12AT7 tube in the phase inverter position for a little cleaner control, but it wasn't enough to be worthwhile. The tone is rich and warm if it just had more headroom.
I might try it with my Telonics 15" speaker, but there's still the headroom issue. _________________ St. Blues 1984 "Holy Grail"
