Putting things together...

Post by Kjell Ohlsson »

Together with my Emmons D10 I´m using a Hilton vol.ped, a Tubefex, Boss RV3 and a Twin Reverb 65 Reissue, sometimes a Fender Steel King. To get the most and the best out of it, in what order would you suggest to put them together? Yes, I´m using the tubes within the Tubefex.
I would appreciate if you will come up with suggestions.

I'd go with the Goodrich pedal, RV3, Twin, in that order. Maybe use a small amount of reverb, or delay, from both the RV3 and the twin since neither are stellar.

Does the Twin have an Fx loop? My Fender 112 does, and I prefer to finish the guitar tone shaping before applying reverb (on the grounds that a hall doesn't have tone controls!)

Personally, I would want to simplify the chain. With reverbs and delays in the Tubefex and reverb in the TR, I would at least lose the RV3.

If you have truly chosen these pieces and intend to use them all, I think I'd go in exactly the order that you listed them.

BTW, I know one player who really digs using a little hall reverb combined with a little TR reverb. But his Hall is from a Holy Grail and his TR is a vintage BFTR.

No effects loop in a twin, or any other classic fender amp. But the reverb circuit is after the tone stack.

Sometimes when you're at home you can get a little crazy adding this and that, 2 reverbs, extra buffer, etc and it might sound arguably better in your home... but what often sounds the best live in the mix of a band is a simpler setup with less electronics between the guitar and speaker.

I would use the rv3 over the tubefex for simplicity sake.

I also vote for guitar, volume pedal, amp.
If you MUST use the tubefex, put it after the volume pedal. The RV3 only when using the Steel King, since the Twin has a great sounding reverb.

More amps than guitars, and not many effects

My preference is to use effects out of the guitar b4 volume pedal when don't have effects loop so they see the full signal all the time.

Indeed, Jim. And I plead just having woken up. Reverb after, everything else before. Although I've had a few cheaper stomp boxen that didn't like the hotter signal from a steel pickup. They went between pedal and reverb

Not familiar with Tubefex, but I have an RV3 & a DD3, and I find that after the pedal is best 'cause it won't decay when you back off.

My compressor & overdrive (for regular guitar) comes before the pedal & the A-B switch.
A couple D-10s,some vintage guitars & amps, & lotsa junk in the gig bag.

Thanks a lot guys,
I´ve got a lot of thoughts from you and I really appreciate it. I guess I don´t have to use all of my equipment.
