If it did it would no longer be a mandolin. Depending on the string length it would either be a bouzuki or a long lute such as a saz.

oh wait....i think i solved the mystery!
your saying that each pair of like instruments share the same scale, right?
not that all mentioned do. that confused me, i guess.
