Was he using just a chorus, or something else. |

Chris I'm just asking because it sounded like chorus, or flanger to me. |

Thanks Robert, I thought it sounded like a flanger. I love that sound on some songs, but not for $500. Maybe I can get my M-OneXL to get close to that. |

The mention of "Houston" reminded me again of what Buddy told me. When he was either driving to or coming from the "Houston" session, which was recorded in Florida, he saw the space shuttle blow up in the sky. _________________ Excel 3/4 Pedal With An 8 String Hawaiian Neck, Sierra Tapper (10 string with a raised fretboard to fret with fingers), Single neck Fessenden 3/5

Gary - The TC will more than get this sound - but try using the Pitch Shift (Pitch Shift / Detune) algorithm.
All the rack mounts like a TC / Lexicon / Eventide / Digitech, etc. have a "Detune" preset that will get this sound. You can always muddy it up with some EQ to get an analog thing going. |

Thanks again Robert. I'll dig my TC book out, and see how to do it. |

I believe is an Ibanez CS-505 Stereo Chorus. It took two 9 volt batteries. One side was the chorus effect, (which you're hearing), and the other side dry. Great effect. BUT the batteries would last 4-5 days. It ran into a lot of cash. The power supply, which eliminated the need for batteries, added a subtle Bb note to every note. If you were playing a solo with a band you wouldn't notice it, but I used it on a session and it stuck out pretty good. Luckily I had batteries along, as well.
The MXR Flanger/Doubler has a slightly different sound. Buddy used it as a doubler most of the time, keeping the sweep slow to slowly alter the sound of the effect. Listen to the In the Mood for Swingin'album and you'll catch a few places where it's obvious. _________________ My best,

Ernie - Thanks for the definitive answer. Here is the Ibanez CS-505 Stereo Chorus. These are readily available on eBay and Reverb.com if a player wanted to really zero in on the "Houston" sound. I'm going to listen back to "In the Mood for Swinging" to try and catch the sound of the doubler.
As we know - Emmons was the leader "sound design" for the pedal steel. I remember reading an article where BE said a music store would let him borrow effects to check out.
