Sierra Crown copedent change

Post by Matt Hutchinson »

Hi,

I have a Sierra Crown Gearless U12 which has the E lowers on LKR. I can't help but feel it would be easier with them on RKR or RKL. I've never changed anything under a guitar before and have heard that the Crown guitars are difficult to work on so I'm a bit apprehensive about getting it wrong.

How easy would it be to swap 2 levers over and is it possible to re-locate the Eb locking lever to work on whichever lever I move the lowers to?

Matt

Matt,

They can be difficult if you have to pull a cross rod out to move a bell crank. However, the slots in the back apron will help in most cases. Also, before Sierra closed their doors last year, they sold bell cranks which were split at the bore where the cross rod intersects. Two sets screws are used to tighten the bell crank once it's in position. These bell cranks allow one to attach, remove or re-position them without moving the cross rods. I've used them on my Sierra and changes were simple. I haven't contacted Tom Baker, but I imagine he will have them available at some point, if not now.

Hope this helps.

Keep on pickin'!

Thanks Glenn, I think I'll just have to set aside plenty of time & get stuck in. At least once I've finished I'll have a better idea how it all works!

Hi Mick,

Just spoke to John, it's a guy in Petersfield. John said he's used him and he's great. Once John's dug out the phone number & let me know I'll pass it on if you like.

Hope you're OK, we still need to get together for a pint at some point.

Matt
it was Dave Wiggins I was thinking of. I don't need a mechanic at the moment (touch wood - everything is working well enough & I am loathe to make any copedant changes in case I hex anything Image ) but its good to know theres two potential saviours out there Image
