I'm getting back into playing after a several year break, and I really want to get into C6th this time around.

I'm thinking that probably one of the video courses would be best for me, but I wouldn't limit my choices to that format exclusively.

I've found what looks to be some interesting stuff by Doug Jernigan, Jeff Newman, Buddy Charlton and Billy Cooper (non video) and some others.

So I'm wondering from the standpoint of coming from an E9th background, what have others found course wise that would be "easy" to wrap your head around? I'm hoping to find something that in addition to showing what to play, you're also shown WHY to play it.

Thanks in advance, your input is appreciated, if you would rather drop me a PM vs posting here, that's fine too.

I think all three of these give you a lot of good ideas that can be taken elsewhere. I also liked the Herby Wallace C6 Methods, but those might be getting hard to find.

If you're looking for more mechanistic and theoretical stuff:

His best, I think, was the "C6 Home Study Course," if you can find it.

And Buddy's course:

Reread your original post: not much video here except Jernigan. Newman will give you the videos and what to play, but not much "why."

I would second Ken's choice of Herby Wallace's HWP 200 and HWP 201 come with extensive TABS and CDs. He also has packages of 4 song sets that come with TAB and CD

I'm with Tony on the Mike Archer's DVDs, which are presentations ofsongs. The songs are clearly and professionally presented by Mike and packed with a lot of information that one can incorporated into the playing of other songs.

Buddy Emmons BASIC C6 with tab and CDs also lays out logically how to deal with the C6th. stevet

You also might take a look at Steve Palousek's video instruction that was recently re-released on DVD - Steve has a relaxed teaching style and the courses are well presented with an overhead view of the fretboard and a close up view of the right hand. The material will keep you busy for quite a while.

Currently in possession of the Emmons and Jernigan C6 beginner courses and they're great. I also have Newmans Music to Get C6th By on the way... Plus Herb Steiner's chord book. In my opinion they're all well worth the investment, although I'm still hacking it up on C6 vs E9.... Practice makes perfect!
