F# raise

Post by jerry harkins »

Thinking of adding this change to my guitar.
Is this used with a pedal combination or alone.
Which lever or pedal should I use and should I raise it 1/2 or a whole tone?
Sorry, I should know this but I've never had this change.
Thanks.

Raising the lst string from F# to G#, gives you the opportunity to play nice unison licks using strings 3 and l. The 7th string raised from F# to G, gives a nice seventh when used with strings 5 and 6 with pedals A and B down. There are also some nice licks that involve the lst string being raised from F# to G. I have both of these changes on my Williams Sl2 and use these changes regularly. I hope this helps you.

Try pedal 4 for the 1st string or maybe a RKL.

The "F# to G" raise on strings "1 and 7" with LR was a standard factory setting on Sho-Bud's with four knee pedals.

I have a whole step raise on my 1st string, and a half on my 7th on LKR. I should add that I have a whole tone lower on my 6th string as well.

My LKR raises my 1st string (F#) a whole tone, my 2nd string (D#) a half tone and
lowers my 6th string (G#)a whole tone. besides the unison notes,
I use strings 2-3 and 5 with that lever engaged, also strings 1-3 and 5.also 1-2 and 5 with the A pedal down and lever engaged gives you an A minor on fret 8.release A pedal and you have a C. or with strings 2-3 and 5 with the lever and A + B pedals gives you a C on fret 8, release the lever, you have a real purty 7th chord.

I've always had my 1st and 7th string raise on LKV so it can be used with AB pedals down - I think it makes the most sense there.

Jerry, like the "C" pedal, it's what I call a "lick pedal". It doesn't really give you any new chords, but it does give you a good "unison lick" in another position. If you want to dedicate a single pedal to it, raise the 2nd string 1/2 tone too, and that'll give you another 1-4 major inversion voicing.

Thanks for the info guys.
I have a LKV that raises the 4th string a whole tone, perhaps it will work with this lever. Also my RKR lowers the 2nd string.
is the V the better choice?
Thanks,Jerry.

I tend to think of the high F# to G# as a gimmicky sound - you hear it sooooo much on the radio.

I really love the high F# to G lever, the way that Lloyd Green uses it. It gives you a major third between the 1st and 2nd strings. With it, you can do entire harmony runs sliding up and down on the first two strings. When you combine those positions with the harmonies available on strings 3, 4 and 5, you have a complete harmonic system that is virtually unlimited.

As for that "gimmick" sound, it's an easy forward bar slant if you have F# to G installed. I see the solid G note as the more essential change.
