I borrowed an old LDG and when I opened the case I saw a Sho Bud undercarriage that looked different than any I'd ever seen. REALLY crappy CAST knees, Springs that looked like they came from a Bic pen,no way to adjust pull rod length, rods just a tad thicker than a body hair..REALLY cheesy!. It looked like Maverick undercarriage. The guitar was a wood neck and looked old but had the "smaller" pedals. It stayed in tune and played well, but the cheapness factor creeped me out. Certainly did not look like any Bud I ever owned!... What kind of mechanism was I looking at??? bob

All Sho-Buds after ABOUT 1978 had this undercarriage. I have a "78" LDG and the weakest part is the knee lever brackets, I have broken two. Duane Marrs make a replacement that is almost unbreakable. He replaced all of mine along with the changer fingers. IMHO those chrome plated fingers sound great but they wear out fast.

I think the key words were "played good and stayed in tune". How was the tone?

Clyde.. tone was ok.. just a bit darker than most Buds I've played. With an aluminum neck it would have been close to the sound I had with my old Pro III...maybe..... bob
