Hey Joe, it was great seeing you at the shop last Saturday. I'm glad that you are enjoying your new guitar...I know I'm sure playing the heck out of my Desert Rose. I picked mine up on June 12th and I haven't even touched my other steel since that day! My guitar can be viewed on the House of Wood website at www.mightyfinemusic.com |

Yes, Gary I saw yours - Chuck is working 6 days a week and many hours to make every delivery. He makes sure everything is exactly right with each guitar.
They are worth the wait.
Thanks for the comment Joe |

Are these guitars heavy? Do they have a sound of their own? Is there any noticable cabinet drop? Any other info is appreciated.
Thanks-Dave |

I hear these are a decendent of the Russler guitar which was bought out by Flynn then desert rose is this true I owned a russler years ago it was a great guitar but not quite what I was looking for. I still have a pic on a album cover that was taken on the old PTL show with Johnny Cook I remember Russ being one heck of a nice guy |

It seems to me that most modern pedal steels are descendants of MSA classics. It is quite astounding to look undernerath so many and see that they are really MSA copies!!! My question is, why settle for a new copy when you can still buy a good used original? |

To answer the questions as best I can - Yes Chuck Back did buy Rustler and some other companies. He has made modern changes and improvements. The pedals are Rustler pedels but now the R on them stands for Rose.
Seriously people should take a look at these new versions that are called Desert Rose. Chuck has a back log now and has only showed it once that I know of and that was at the Texas Show. I happen to live in Phoenix and do business in Tucson so have had a chance to spend more time around his shop than most people would. Mine plays like a dream and sounds great too. I undersand he has canceled on going to St. Louis simply because he wants to meet every promised date he makes to customers. I could not be happier and it is still new but getting better already. Chuck will be at the Southwest Show in January with guitars (he basically does not know how many he will have there now due to his order back log.) To avoid giving out wrong info you need to check with Chuck but he is building some for some pretty big name guys.
Thanks for all the discussion. I am just getting back in to the steel but will soon have some great players let me know how they think it plays and will keep you informed. Joe

I have real Fender guitar it a Jazzmaster 1963,I have played the new fender Jazzmaster a copy of the old fender jazzmaster and thats all it is just a copy.and have i played copy that are better then the real thing.I think the Desert Rose Steel Guitar is better then the real thing, So wear did the MSA come from,is it a copy, I'm not sure.

Chuck bought the Russler and Flynn inventory from me, but what he is building has little resemblance to either guitar, except for the patented Flynn changer and the pedals. He has modernized the appearance of the guitar, gone to an all wood body, added quick change bellcranks and square cross rods on the professional models and reduced the size and weight in comparison to the predecessors. He is building a quality pedal steel and is selling them as fast as he can build them while maintaining quality control. He is a great player himself, having spent 20 years on the road playing pedal steel. He plans to have a booth at the Lexington show on November 5-6 and will be on the program. |

Thank you Fred for the explanation. I have spent a great deal of time in Chuck's shop and he is a joy to be around and the quality is there because Chuck takes great pains to make sure it is a quality guitar.
I have had mine a month or so now and I could not be happier. Almost everytime I go down there he has gotten more orders.
He will be in the Southwest Steel Guitar Show in January in Phoenix and we are all excited about that too. |
