Those are great songs. A country song writer doesn't make a country singer. I have not heard anything by him that sounds like this. He is good though. I listened to a lot of his YouTube videos.

I like Kasey Musgraves quite a bit and am happy to see that she is being recognized. She can haul off and do a great job on traditional country when she wants to.

In many previous years similar threads after the CMA's were nothing but venting - complaints and criticisms of the show and music. At least there are a few rays of sunshine. I've just listened to Chris Stapletons complete recent CD and it's great. Lots of steel (albeit not the traditional stuff). Great voice (albeit not the traditional stuff). Great songs too. Liked Kasey Musgraves from the beginning. Hopefully they show the masses that there are more choices than bro-country. Like showing folks that there are more healthier options to eating that fast food.

Sorry to say boys and gals, the best singer of them all was never on stage... Ashley Monroe! What a shame this Country Music has become. It's time to get back to the basics, Or find a new term for those new wonna be country popers! Where are the Conways, Waylons, Verns, Lorettas, to name a few... with all do respect to Miranda Lambert and that Kasey girl who try... Its sad!!! Over produced, overdriven and oversain!!!! JT

Not saying this will happen to him, but a lot of one-hit wonders have been musicians and song writers for many years. That doesn't guarantee anything.

The only glitch in Stapleton winning the awards is the fact that the CMAs let real talent slip thru.

If he's a flash in the pan as a performing artist, it's because he's far superior to the typical lowest common denominator performers that get the hype and enjoy the popularity. Let's revel in his success.

I like Stapleton and I like Jamey Johnson but it seems to me like Stapleton may be this years Jamey Johnson. They occasionally let someone like that in to maintain relevancy. Last year it was Musgraves. Radio is still going to be playing the same Luke Bryan/Sam Hunt/Jason Aldean crap that it was before.

Concerning the song "Girl Crush", this is all I can say about that. If woman A sees her man messing around with woman B, the only "crush" idea that is going to pop into her head is "how can I get this woman's head in a bench vise and crush her brains out".

I still don't really know how women think and last week my wife and I celebrated our 34th anniversary.

I really like the song, but I will admit it took me a couple listens to get the gist of the lyrics.

i was speaking with my wife and my two twenty something daughters about this song during dinner the other night, and they told me they "got it" (no mention of crushing another girl's brains) the way the song was written the first time they heard it.

Yeah, just gotta listen to the chorus the first time around and the message of the song is perfectly clear.

As for understanding women, I grew up with 4 older sisters, and my grandmother lived with us. So, it was my dad & I and 6 women. Then I went a married a gal with 4 sisters. There's almost nothing a woman can do that will surprise me, but that doesn't mean I understand them necessarily. They sure are fabulous tho', aren't they?

Stopped listening to the CMA and modern country radio when I stopped hearing great steel guitar licks. If that's what this generation of Nashville producers wants to shove down peoples ears then they are welcome to it, it all just sounds like bad rock & roll to me.

There actually is a new term coined by Dale Watson. He calls it Ameripolitan and they have an award show for it in Austin, Tx, on the 16th February. Ameripolitan spans the genres; honky tonk, western swing, rockabilly and outlaw. I haven't watched the CMA in a couple of years now because most songs seemed to spring from Queens old song "We will rock you" (is that really a country song?). Sometimes you can trace some country in artists like Kacey Musgraves, Jamey Johnson, Brad Paisley and maybe even Chris Stapleton but not enough to watch the whole circus. I even like the ones i mentioned but it's not Ameripolitan!

If you guys want to see some great music watch Daley and Vincent/Marty Stewart/Tru Country and all the new shows on RFD TV. The stuff on the CMA to me is pure garbage. Chris Stapleton sings ok but doesn't interest me at all. I also don't like Jamey Johnson with his overly whining voice. There are a slew of new, young great artists that are doing what I like and that is people like Teea Goins, Amber Digby, Justin Trevino, Mo Pitney. Florida Georgia Line can go back to Florida and fall in a sink hole and take Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, FGL, and all the rest of the crap with them.
Call me old fashioned and thats okay. Just my opinion.

I am with you Dennis, today's music all sounds alike to me. Just like RAP and KIP HOP. You've heard one you have heard them all. Today's Country has no COOL STEEL LICKS, I have heard some of them. They fuzz it up and do all SLIDE JOBS. I think it hurt them to do some picking fill in licks and playing the MELODY! I don't listen to "TODAY'S COUNTRY". I listen to Talk Radio. or I listen to Classic Country on my smart phone. I have a couple of station app down loaded to it.

WOW - Paul hit that nail on the head. "There's More Where That Came From" What a great country song by Leanne Womack. Thanks for posting!!! I'm sure Harlan Howard, Billy Sherrill, or any traditional country icon's ears would perk up if they heard this. This may be my favorite song of the year.

Boy I really envy you "enlightened" guys with your "enlightened" wives who get a "heart rush" when they see you with your girlfriend. Guess I need to find myself an "enlightened" wife, cause the one I have now would be lookin' for her 45 when she sees me with my girlfriend.
