Here's my C6th lap steel arrangement of the late jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard's tune "Little Sunflower", a hip model tune from the 60s that has a feeling of going from dark-to-light when the minor chord vamp's tension is finally released to the major 7th harmonies. It's one of the earliest jazz tunes I recall liking as a kid.

There's are a lot of devices to use to improvise over it and the long D minor vamp gives you a lot of space to stay tonal or take the sounds outside as your taste dictates. I did a sample solo that kind of crams in every idea but the kitchen sink into a single solo just to show some of the things one could do with it.

For 6-string C6th: (hi to low) E C A G E C

Sounds great, Andy. What steel are you playing? Your intonation is impeccable!

That's computer generated audio, Jim (as I think you already know) but my intonation on lap steel is also flawless ............................ not.
