I know this is a theoretical question without a definite answer but it might be interesting to think about how many PSG have been built in the history of the instrument (all brands, all models)? Should we think of 10,000 or 50,000? It's really hard for me to imagine a number!
Kind Regards, Walter

Hi, Walter,
I'm guessing that total Emmons production is around 5,000 - maybe 2200 LeGrandes and the rest push/pulls. I'm basing this on the highest P/P serial numbers I've seen listed are in the high-2,000s, and my two LeGrandes (1885 and 2085) are '98 and '00 respectively.
This isn't scientific, but just an educated estimation - I'm assuming that both series of instruments commenced with #1.
Dunno about all the other brands, though!

If Emmons is 5,000 & MSA 20,000 then a total of around or over 100,000, if you include all variations of the theme (worldwide, since the beginning of time) is not unreasonable.
Estimate just based on eyeballing a half-bathtub curve. Poisson Distribution anyone?
Oops, for the stats purists it's not Poisson but I cant for the life of me remember the correct name at the moment.[This message was edited by Ray Minich on 21 September 2004 at 01:45 PM.] |

Give or take a few, I'd say about 47,221. Probably hundreds of different brands have been manufactured, but less than a dozen of those manufacturers have built over 1,000. |

I think Donny's estimate is on the low end. By my calculations, it's more like 52,279 - you can't forget the ones made out of door hinges & plumbing fixtures.... |
