My new Emmons - a couple questions....

I just got this 1975 D10 push/pull which is in really good shape (except for the case - damaged due to insufficient bracing) and sounds really great. I have a couple questions... Firstly, who's the best source for parts? I will want to add a couple raises and the E9 pickup is kind of microphonic and I might replace it. Was there a standard impedance for the mid 70s pickups? Lastly, I've not seen this finish before. Does anyone know if this was an option or might it be refinished? It's hard to tell in the picture, but it's lacquer with a pearl inlay.

I've never seen a lacquered p/p with pearl inlay.

I did a bunch of searches and couldn't find one either, which is what led me to think it may have been refinished.... I don't know. If so, it's very well done - the back apron is inlaid as well.

It might have a new cabinet. Lacquered Emmons had wood inlay. It would be almost impossible to elimate that type of inlay and replace it with a a couple strips of pearl.

It could be new, I suppose. It's hard to say as the rest of the guitar was so lightly played it all looks reasonably new.... The pedals still have the original matte finish on them - they haven't been worn shiny. Unfortunately, the owner passed away, so I can't get a definitive answer.....

Anything's possible. But I'd suspect a custom order before a new cab. Or a very good mod/refinish. Either way, cool looking guitar.

As for parts, there are several sources, but I would check with Jerry Roller or Lynn Stafford. If they don't have it, they'il likely know who does if it's available.

Chris, there isn't anything clearly indicating either of them worked on it..... And the RKL is pretty obviously not up to their standards, hence the need for parts.... I'll get some more pics posted over the weekend...

Olli - perhaps, but it a pretty nice Birdseye, which I wouldn't expect under mica, but who knows?

A friend of mine stripped his SKH LeGrande and put new mica on it. He said that the wood underneath was absolutely beautiful birdseye maple.

If you removed the mica the endplates would have too much slop in them ie: the guitar would be narrower.

The twin pearl stripes seems to me to be a more modern era decorative approach...anybody have a clearer idea when that approach became popular? Emmons traditionally used a different banding with their lacquer models.

Another possibility is mica was replaced with veneer of the correct thickness which could be seen on underside of aprons.

In any event it is a very attractive finish.

One thing I noticed right away, there is no black flocking on the bottom of the cabinet.
I really don't know what you've got there.

That is not the original flocking that came on the guitar.
Only the very early "red belly" Emmons p/p's had red flocking.

I contacted the seller - he was selling it for the widow of the owner apparently - to find out if he could give me any history of this guitar.... We'll see. I just know it came from Baltimore.....
