Here is an instrumental with a great steel solo at 1:07 --
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFKABL-_JeA
Does anybody out there know if this solo is (or even could be) played on a non-pedal steel guitar? I am unable to find the name of the player.
I can find most of the notes on an 8-string, but the speed seems unattainable. |

According to this CD Baby page, the non pedal steel is played by the late great Tom Morrell.
His tuning was probably:
1. G#
2. F#
3. E
4. C#
5. B
6. G#
7. F#
8. E
9. D
10. E _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Brad,
Thanks for finding the credits! In addition to Tom Morrell, Gary Carpenter, a pedal steel player, is also listed.
Still a bit of a mystery. |

No mystery there. That solo is Morrell. |

Great playing...thanks for posting this. I saw Tommy play many times at the Dallas show and he always amazed me...he could get more out of steel guitar with no pedals than most people could with 10 pedals and 10 knee levers ! impossible, nobody can play or sound like that without at least 10-15 knee levers... _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |
