This is a GREAT CD folks, I listened to it twice through on my way home from Dallas. Not having mixed a Jazz album before, Jim said he was afraid it might not be up to par, but in my opinion, he hit it out of the ball park. He has a great selection of songs, and I wouldn't change a thing on the tone, or the mixing.

I couldn't help but compare it to Buddy's black album which was a kind of bench mark for steel guitar albums. The playing, the tone, the musicians, and the production are superb.

MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, as well as some older MSAs, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Recently added a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored blue Rose, named the "Blue Bird" to the herd. Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic again that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also added a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks.

Darvin,

What a really nice compliment having my CD compared to the Black Album. However, I have to remember that not only did Buddy Emmons play those tunes live with the band he wrote most of them too! I had the luxury of being able to bring the rhythm tracks home and get my part the way I wanted it before turning it loose.

I doubt there was much -- if any -- overdubbing on the Emmons LP except what was pre-determined for twin parts and "Witches Brew". Not to mention it was all done in less than a day!

And, I didn't write any of it (some of the solo lines were mine, but many others I stole from E, Bird and countless other greats). I hope they will pardon the larceny.

And further, even with all the recording advantages I still couldn't carry Buddy's case! (Come to think of it, I did carry his steel at a recording session once but that's the only way I'll ever come close).

Still, I want to thank you for even mentioning me in the same paragraph as my favorite steel record!

Thanks to everyone who took a chance on getting the CD and to all who wrote such nice words.

Best wishes,

Jim

Hi Mike,

Bobby Lee has suggested I make tab and tracks available for the CD. He has a really good feel for what players want so I will take his advice. It will take a little time to write the tab but I will keep the Forum posted with progress.

Thanks a million,

Jim

All I can say is 'Wow!'. Jim has really hit the ball out of the park with this CD. It's hard to believe that it took almost 50 years for someone to follow in Buddy Emmons' footsteps after the release of "Steel Guitar Jazz" in 1963, but this CD is the natural sequel to that classic recording. Jim has the tone, he has the attack, he has the phrasing and vocabulary, and he has the collaborators to make this one heckuva jazz CD. While about half of the tunes will be known to dyed-in-the-wool jazz-oriented steelers, several are new additions to the steel guitar repertoire, including "East of the Sun (And West of the Moon)", "Hot House", "Sippin' at Bells", "Barbados", and "Milestones", thus moving the ball forward in helping to establish steel guitar as a legitimate jazz instrument.

A big BRAVO! to Jim for an outstanding new release. Gets my highest recommendation:

TTT for a great album

Post by Mike Taylor »

Just got mine yesterday and have already run the needle thru it.. well not really..
What a great album. Whenever I try to describe to a newbie what a Emmons PP should sound like--I always pull out a Jim Loessberg track and now we have 12 more; what a huge tone!!

This CD is the most enjoyable CD I have purchased in years. I listen to it all the time. My favorite song is "East of the Sun." I would be totally excited if that song was in tablature form as well as the others. In my opinion I think Jim is absolutley fantastic. Currently one of my favorite players.

Might I suggest you add Frenchie Burke's Dance Album to your collection as well. This one features Jim and Randy Reinhard on Steel. Jim is also on drums for some of the tracks. You can get the CD off the same web site. http://www.startexrecords.com./

I think this is one of my favorites. Frenchie played all around south Texas when I was growing up and I remember going to see him more than a few times. Jim and Randy just light it up on the steel. This record also has Bobby Flores playing guitar and fiddle. I think it's a must!

A little bump for this excellent CD from a few years back. I am listening to it now at 30,000 ft. from Atlanta to Denver. If you have interest in this kind of picking support the artist! (Be it Loessberg or whomever) If you don't buy it, who will?

CD and Tab

Post by Ray Mangrum »

Jim, indeed please do the tab. The only way I can even start to think in circles close to your playing is to have the cheat sheets. Keep up the good work and please advise as soon as the tabs are available.
