Has anybody moved the 8th pedal changes to pedal 4 and removed the 8th pedal (and the original 4th pedal changes) ? Might make sense...

I swapped my 4th and 8th pedals a long time ago, based on seeing Curly Chalker's copedent. It's probably too late for me to change back, but I see more uses for them the standard way.
I see no advantage to removing the A-B change, the weight savings would be minimal. You might want to put another change there instead. |

I've seen people move P8 to P4, but I never really understood it. If you use P8 and P5 together, you get really strange pitches from strings 9 and 10. You need tunable splits there, at least. Even with tunable splits, the low string notes don't make musical sense to me.
I see how it might be convenient to have them next to each other for standard jazz progressions, but you lose the P7+P8 combination. |

| Most universals have lost the 4th pedal and put pedal 8 in its place. I saw an explanation of why this is done sometime in the past 6 months or so, but I don't remember it. |

About 10 years ago, Bobbe Seymour had an MCI D-10, w/ 7 X 4. His 3rd pedal operated both necks, but I don't know which C-6th changes were added to pedal 3.??

When I had my Kline, I removed the 8th pedal. I've always had the pedal 8 changes on pedal 5 (although now, I have pedal 8 on a knee lever). I had the pedal 4 changes on a knee lever. I took #8 off because of the place where I was used to putting my volume pedal, when hitting pedal 8, I would sometimes catch the volume pedal too.

Jef Newman advocated puttin P8 on P4 on his universal S12. It is in his Universal Video course and he explains it very well.It makes a lot of sense as far as easy chord changes.
Unless a player has a well educated Curly Chalker Left foot, it is best not to have to move the foot too much.That is another post another day.......al
