I just got this guy from Lynn Stafford. It's a '69 fatback, I'm second owner. It came with some of the original paperwork, which is also cool.

It was on Lynn's webpage for sale, so Lynn and I worked out a deal. Rather than a full cosmetic restore, we decided for Lynn to do a full mechanical restore, including a complete changer dis-assembly and re-condition, and every piece (necks, pegheads, etc.) pulled off the guitar and cleaned/lubed/replaced as necessary. Since it had only normal cosmetic wear, it looked pretty much like what a well cared for '69 P/P should look like and Lynn and I agreed the natural, honest appearance was a good way to go. As Lynn said, they're only original once.

It was scheduled to be delivered on Friday, so I was waiting around for Fedex and finally had to leave for a gig, with it still out on the truck. My wife texted me at that gig later that it was finally delivered at 8PM.. Some worried moments for sure.

I got home at 1:30A and unboxed it, and fortunately it arrived in good condition. I set it up and engaged KLs and pedals and confirmed that things were still hooked up, but I didn't plug it in or sit behind it at all. I had to leave at 8:30A the next day for daytime gig, so that morning I pondered for a few minutes about the wisdom of taking it, and despite some real nervousness, decided to do it. (I didn't want to wait.. Smile)

I got to the gig, set it up and got it tuned up. The whole guitar was down about a step, since I didn't even really tune it the night before. Amazingly, it tuned right up. I made a couple of very minor tweaks on the changer to suit my ear, and I adjusted the A and B pedal heights a tad to fit what my foot was used to and off I went.

As unbelievable as it sounds (some may say foolish) I took this guitar right out of the box to a gig, and it was great. This is a real testament to the quality of Lynn's work. Throughout the transaction, Lynn was extremely helpful with communication; suggesting ideas, and totally willing to do whatever I wanted to make the guitar right for me. I couldn't be happier, the guitar sounds great and everybody needs two P/Ps right??? BTW, I though my '73 played pretty well until I played this guitar; nope, not even close. Thanks Lynn for a great job!!!

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your very kind words and for taking a huge leap of faith. I really enjoyed doing business with you and I feel like we've become friends along the way. That seems to happen most every time I do business with someone. I also want to thank you for your patience, as the passing of my mother back in May took a big toll on my busy schedule and put me a few months behind.

Hi Lynn,
Indeed, I feel we've become good friends. I guess that's the hallmark of a successful business transaction? Thanks again for the great job (and supplementary p/p education), especially given the personal circumstances you've been dealing with the last few months.

I'm sure we'll be talking again. Smile
