*SOLD* Carter D-10 5&8 vintage 1998, *SOLD*

Post by Jason Rogers »

My grandfather's prized and highly coveted Carter D-10, excellent condition. Comes with all accessories pictured. I can answer any questions/post pictures pertaining to details.

Date stamped via serial number on August 25th, 1998, the 80th pedal steel made that year. Cadillac Turquoise in color, shines like a diamond when polished. Case is in excellent condition, and is very sturdy. My grandfather was meticulous about his equipment, and this guitar was very well taken care of. Price is $2195 OBO + actual shipping(was $2450).

*Edit 10.4.15*
I just got off of the phone with my dad. My grandfather, Casmir "Cass" Rogers bought the guitar brand new in 1998 and played it until he passed away in 2006. After that, it was stored with humidification packs in a cool, dark closet until I opened it for pictures and sale. So, subtract a decade of any wear and tear - even exposure to sunlight!

Hey Damir! You know, when I first saw the color I stepped back a few feet, but now that I realize what it is, and especially what it was to grandpa - a touring solo steel artist in Arizona/Nevada - I almost couldn't entertain another color. I think it's bold, true to the roots, and perfect for everything it was meant for. If you know what this color is, it speaks volumes for itself.

Jason, I'm working on my steel guitar calendar, and my July guitar is almost the same color as your Carter, not every guitar has to be black or rosewood

That's a beautiful guitar. Sign me up for one of those calendars if you end up putting them up for sale! July is my birth month, so it'll be nice to think of my grandfather then.

If anyone wanted to go $3000 on the Carter D-10 and the Stereo Steel Combo, I'd cut you that deal, plus combined shipping would be lower. Just putting that out there for you guys.

WOW, I never noticed how the Pedal rods connect to the pedals on Carter guitars.
Is this the standard configuration on all carters or just certain years? Thanks

You know, that's a good question. I have been searching for a definitive answer on the internet, but haven't come across one yet. From my understanding, Bud was also an auto mechanic and would use metal hangers and carburetor parts to develop parts that made more sense for the pedal steel. In that way - as well as in many others - he was responsible for a lot of the way steel guitars have evolved into what they are today. So if you look at it that way, it'd seem to stand to reason that there would be a number of rod connector prototypes in existence. It's quite possible he saw the viability in this type of connector and established it as his go-to. I can tell you that they're very secure and even easier to use. I'll keep looking for that definitive answer!
