Real nice, William! Nothing like a Cowboy Jack song. Of all the versions I've heard, I think I like Johnny Paycheck's version the best.

Ok, But Charlie Sang it Right?

Actually Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton sang it on a Recording Date October 10, 1967 - October 12, 1967

Yes you are right in saying Jack Wrote it.

Right! But remember, Cowboy Jack Clement got Charlie's career going. He was very important and produced Charlie's first single 'Snakes Crawl At Night'. Don't gloss over Cowboy...

Didn't Cowboy come from near around the same thicket as George Jones in the Beaumont area?

Nice job,William!

I guess everybody's seen the old Lawrence Welk show where Pride does this song and gives a really nice nod to Lloyd Green for his contribution to his songs, and music in general. If not, here is a link ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJQdR0ciwYg

Hey Dan,
Yeah that Lawrence Welk youtube is incredible! Lloyd playin' a D10, too.

I know Cowboy was a Memphis guy who started with Sun Records. That's where he met Johnny Cash. I think Charlie Pride's first recording was done at Sun Records and that's where Cowboy started their long association. It's amazing how Cowboy had an ear for finding country talent and recording some of the greatest. (Not to mention his writing abilities and Dobro playing.)
