GFI replacement levers

Post by Stuart Docherty »

Anybody replaced knee levers on a GFI…?

I have had a GFI Expo for a few months now, long enough to know that i really, really, really, really, really don't like the way the LKL digs into my leg and I would sell my dog to replace it with a lever that maybe bends away a little at the end…

Is this possible…?

A flag might help distribute the pressure.

More amps than guitars, and not many effects

Flags are bits of (usually) metal to enlarge contact area of the lever.

Other people have improvised their own flags, some look snazzy, some are spatula blades and duct tape.

GFI should be able to sell you a knee lever flag for your lkl. You tried changing the angle on the lever have you? I find it is more comfortable facing inwards.

You can buy a knee lever flag from Bob at GFI. The flag is standard on one knee lever of a D-10. Slides on your knee lever and is held by two set screws.

yep, i think "inwards" accentuates the problem… it's a good position, but it all comes down to the length and the bonyness of the outside of my knees...

Wow… thanks…
I ended up emailing a copy of my post to GFI, they never mentioned they had flags in their reply… (was great they replied..)
I think a flag would do it for me..
Sounds pretty straight forward…

On my Zum, the end of the LKL lever hit me right at the knee cap and after a while I would experience some discomfort. I contact Bruce and he sent me a flag for that lever and when I installed it I extended it a ways past the end of the lever itself and that took care of the problem.
It fact, that felt so good I went ahead and did the same to my LKR. On this lever, I obtained some 3/23" thick aluminum and fashioned the flag myself. :D
