Do you have a 12" or 15" for sale, or are you looking to buy?

Jim while I don't use a Stereo Steel, I do use two Telonics 15" speakers in my rack setup and they are just outstanding speakers ... I use a combination of a open backed cabinet and a closed back and to my ears they are just about perfect. and very light Very Happy

Wow Paddy. Thanks. I thought maybe no one used either of these things.

I was thinking about building the cabs. Did you build yours? One open, one closed?? Interesting.

If you have any pics, would you please email them to me.

Is there a reason you chose 15" over the 12"?

Thanks,
JimE

hi Jim no my cabinets are Telonics cabinets as well - incredibly well made and light weight units.
check here:

Just give Dave Beaty a call and he will take care of you

I prefer the 15's as I play a lot of C6th and i like the more rounded sound of the 15"

Thanks again.

I do quite a bit of woodworking and would like to build the cabs myself. Just need to find a set of plans that work or dimensions. O see these are 19x19x11. I guess that is a start, but I would like to get it right.

I don't do any C 6th. That is why I was asking about the 12" version. I guess no one on The Forum uses them or has read this post.

Thanks again for the reply.

Hi Jim. ...I can't answer the specific question because I don't have that specific gear. .... .. but have found that for E9 playing a 12 inch sounds as good or better than a 15... they seem to have more focus in the mids...better eq control...Sits better in a band mix because it doesn't swallow up all of the sonic space. ... I do use a 15 for home practice because I find a solo instrument sounds better with a wider freq spread. ..

If you are building your own cabs and want stereo, you may want to build one of each and then demo different speakers.

Some six string guitar players who run stereo or wet dry seem to prefer different but complementary speakers in each half of their rig. ..a lot of additional psycho acoustic space opens up with that format. Many six stringers also mix different speakers in the same cabinet. ..I have a cab set up like that and had lots of highly positive comments back.. besides was a lot of fun to play . The guitar sound you hear when you walk into a stadium rock concert is what this mixed speaker cab sounds like. .. it was a real head turner when I gigged.

Thanks Tom.

I have a set of Peavey 12" Black Widow cabs that they made years ago when they were making the Profex. I use them with a World 1.6 amp and a TransTube Fex. I find they don't get lost in the band as easily as the 15" BW's I use to have.

Thanks again.

Believe me when I say that I have never been "lost" in the mix playing with 15" speakers -- !!!

Jim, are you familiar with the new Eminence Travis Toy signature 12" speaker? There is a discussion here: http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=287854

Product page here: http://www.eminence.com/speakers/speaker-detail/?model=Double_T_12

They're brand new, I was curious whether anyone had tried one out yet, and what their impressions are. The original spec sheet on the Eminence website had listed it at 7 pounds with a ferrite magnet, but they've updated it now to say neodymium.

Jim, some time ago, maybe a year ago, I asked the same question no the forum. "Does anybody prefer 12" speakers vs. 15 inch speakers" There were quite a few responses. Do a search under my name. If you go back far enough, you will find the post.
