My 1st Lap Steel was a Magnatone Troubadour S8 I bought from the Late Nick Manscolico in El Cajon California.
Like most all of the contemporary makers my thought was, "I can make one of those - even better"
I had a plank of the Quilted Maple large enough to make 2 of these and my 1st hand make was one and I held the other until last week Glued up and Shaped 20 + years ago, and now with finish and top parts I've saved up too.
We took a trace from the Magnatone Water Fall body and did a pin router of on the Mahogany - Maple sandwich.
The Jerry Wood will be of interest to Jerry Garcia Fans as this plank was the next slice over from the plank Doug Irwin used to make the WOLF Guitar Jerry Played until he got the Walnut one he used until his untimely passing is the later 1990's.

Paul, I have used the same formula for 20+ years on over 500 of my brand name VintageSpec.
We developed these with Lindy Fralin - our plastic shop lasers the top and bottom plates.
I glue them up with non magnetized Alnico 5 Magnets.
Send them to our winder (same person that wound them for Lindy, has his own shop now).
We use our super secret Patented Formula - Over Wound for Greater Hum & Noise to signal Ratio and extra punch.
They are wound with modern materials opposed to the old school Enamel coated wire that Fender used.
The mags are charged and waxed for microphonic reduction.
I get them back and Shield them again with Copper to help protect the coil from inductance - radio waves and so on.
Mark, (In a Fake English accent) paraphrasing Spinal Tap Movie Scene -- You can hear the intense Tone and Sustain.
Well you can't actually hear it without the Strings - Pickup and Jack plugged in.
But if they were installed and plugged in you could hear the amazing sound.
