Fender 400 4 + 2

I have a Fender 400 with 4 on the floor and two at the knees.
It has a serviceable case but has been around a while.
The steel plays well. It is tuned to a Holly E and the LN-R is a minor and the RKL is a 7th. The mechanical on the knees is not patened so buy yourself a fortune for altering pull changers

Some are cheaper and some cost more....this one sells for the listed price.

I live in the great Northwest, close to exit 49 on I-5. There will be a little bluesky included in the case ! lol

There were a few (at least two) variants of the Fender 400. Interestingly, they also came in different colors.

Most important: Long scale vrs short scale, roller bridge? Roller nut? Type of PU? stamped or cast pedals?

It looks exactly like all of them but precisely like the bottom one.
Mine has 4 black cast pedals, a roller bridge, 2 add-on knee levers and has Fender script on the pedal board. Has a 23 " scale and a case like the bottom one pictures. Mine aint that clean tho.

It would be nice to see an actual picture of the actual guitar,especially the knee levers. People want pictures before they plop down their money for something. It is hard enough to sell things these days even with pics. Just look at all the stuff up for sale here that gets little or no reaction from people. The market is soft and asking prices are frequently not in line with final buying price. Everything one can do to promote interest should be done.

It would sell real quickly at a yard sale for $129.43, even without opening the case, if somebody knew about Fender 400's

Does somebody actually make knee lever kits for the 400. I've rigged up rather primitive single RKL but if there is something more pro that would be great

Posting a picture on the forum can be daunting to some of us, myself included. Seriously Jack, someone needs a pic before they can buy a used steel. I've seen 400's in all kinds of conditions. An easy way to get a pic to someone is: take a picture with a phone and email it to someone at their request.

Jack, I apologize in general if the picture issue is upsetting. There are, however, instructions on the forum regarding the posting of pictures.

As Administrator of the Fender Steel Forum I can tell you no guitar sells there without pictures, especially one with added knee levers. There are high-tech, polished-metal commercial-quality knee levers on Fenders and there are ones mad3e from barn doors that function just fine.

Each, however, will add (or subtract) from the basic value of the guitar depending on the quality of the installation.

There are also several other details not listed that can usually be seen in pictures - these are important to Fender steel players.

I've seen them sell recently for prices near what you're asking, which is at the higher end of the "book price" (Vintage Guitar Price Guide) for a stock instrument in very good condition. I've also seen them go for half that if parts are original Fender but mixed from various guitars and aftermarket installations are done in specific ways known among players to be problematic.

There are also questions regarding whether the guitar has had the changer and large pulley dismantled and serviced, originality of electronics and several other items.

I'm not trying to "lecture" - just trying to help you, as it's difficult to sell these despite rising popularity as more players have become knowledgable as to the details that make a guitar an "open the case and play it" instrument or one that time will need to be invested in. Detailed pictures and an expanded description almost always guarantee a better price - or offers in the appropriate price range.

Anyone know what happened to this one? I never heard from him, so I assume he either was angry at everyone for posting kind advice as to selling conventions on steel sites, or it was sold without pics or locally.

I'm curious if it DID sell what the final price was. I try to keep track of these things.
