I wore out several needles on the turntable just stopping and starting the "Buddies" album (Emmons,Sphicher)
I wanted that sound.
My ultimate pedal steel hero. I met him twice and it was a joy both times. At convention, I always looked forward to whatever "Banter" would go on between musicians that obviously loved playing on stage with Buddy.
Rest well, your example and skil has been incredible.

Buddy's the reason I play steel guitar, my biggest inspiration, and honestly, the only player I've ever really, truly cared about. And he'll continue to be all those things, with us or not. RIP.

I've seen the Big E play dozens of times here in town and other places and he was truly the best I ever heard live or on recordings. The man just owned the instrument and it's just a hell of a thing to really be the very best there is at what you do and he really was. The folks would just fill up the whole floor with their cameras and recording equipment every year in St Louis at the convention and when he finished you knew it had been played as good as it could be played. Everybody would go back to their seats and then the next guy would come up to play it was never the crowd in front like it was when Emmons was up there. Who would want to follow that?

All of the great ones I wanted to meet. Buddy was at the top of that list. I am really saddened by his lost. But I realize he did not suffer. And he is at peace. Junior, Keep on playing, my friend, keep the sound alive. Buddy would want you to. I hope to meet you one day. I have met Jim, and Mickey. And they have helped me out a lot with my playing.

Our creator new exactly what he was doing when he chose to give Buddy all that talent. Buddy took us all on exciting ride throughout the years with honor and a million stories and laughs. I've never been so focused on anything as when he played. I am praying that I will have this privilege again. God Bless and comfort his family.

No matter how much you prepare yourself for this, it is always hard to deal with.
With out a doubt he will always be the world's "Number One" steel guitar player.
We all have so much to thank him for.
Rest In Peace Mr. Buddy Emmons.
