Nuages - Andy Volk

Post by Bob Lawrence-Markarian »

Hi, I went to the post that you did on Feb. 20, 2015, Andy, to listen to the audio clip for Nuages. Dropbox told me that the file had been moved or deleted. I was able to upload it before - in Feb.. Any changes in the file status?

This is a wonderful arrangement by the way. I'm really enjoying it (I did manage to print the sheet music out some months ago.
Thanks,
Bob

Thanks! I'm really glad you're enjoying it, Bob.

It's offline now because I made a few corrections and included it as part of my new book of B11th arrangements that should be out this Summer. I'm still making tweaks and fixes and finalizing the layout.

I've justl uploaded the audio for the new/latest version on Soundcloud for you:

Note that this is a MIDI jazz guitar patch so it's an approximation of how it sounds on a lap steel.

I've been playing Nuages on pedal steel in Wine Country Swing. It's been in our song list for about 3 years now. Beautiful tune, and a challenge! Sorry to report that we haven't recorded it yet.

Looking forward to hearing your lap steel recording, Andy. 8)

 I stand corrected. Charlie McDonald found a live recording of me on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/b0b/nuages

It's pedal steel, though. I'm not sure how to approach the tune without pedals. So many chords! :whoa:

I have an arrangement, but I changed the key to Gb to accommodate a few nice chords. I'd like to re-record it, since it's been a few years since I did this.

Hey - no fair! You can't sandwich me between players of the calibre of Neer and Hatcher!

Beautiful playing, Bill!

Joe Craven is a longtime member of David Grisman's group and his CD Django Latino is really refreshing. He takes a number of tunes (including Nuages) associated with Django through a wide variety of classic Latin rhythms. No steel but super arranging and playing. The songs are so inherently strong that they can easily adapt to different approaches.
