Buddy's Boogie

Post by Roger Shackelton »

Buddy's Boogie

This was a song written & performed by Buddy Emmons when he was with the Texas Troubadors. I heard Doug Jernigan perform it at the Phoenix Steel guitar show & was amazed at what a great song this was & what a great job he did with it. I couldn't wait to learn it when it came out on the tribute to the Big "E" album.

This dude was wrong, Buddy's Boogie was recorded when Buddy was with Little Jimmy Dickens.
I must admit he plays the tune very well.

Buddy Charleton recorded it with the Texas Troubadours.

I don't think Buddy Charleton has ever really received the recognition he deserves. I remember seeing him and the Texas Droopy Drawers at a county fair and I was amazed at his playing. When he was playing the C6th neck, he virtually danced on the pedals with both feet.

Buddy's Boogie

Roger, I apologize for any inaccuracies about my youtube post. Like I said, I never heard the song until about 2 or 3 years ago when I saw Doug Jernigan do it at the Phoenix steel show. I don't know if Buddy E. recorded it with Jimmy Dickens also. I bought the Texas Troubadors instrumental album and that was the first time I heard Buddy's version. I'm pretty sure it was Buddy Emmons although Buddy Charleton also played with The Troubadors for many years and it was sometimes very difficult to tell them apart. Both amazing players in so many ways. I'm pretty sure this was Buddy Emmons' song as it was on his tribute album produced by Steve Fishell with Jernigan playing it on there. Again, I missed out on alot of the Buddy Emmons era as I didn't start playing seriously until the late Eighties and early 90's so I'm kinda playing catch up. I do agree Buddy Charleton is one of the best players ever also and doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

'I did not know that,' as Johnny Carson was fond of saying. :)
That was very hot and smooth, Paul, and over in quick-time, making it look easy (double smilies).

HI Charlie,

That quote was for Paul Haaker.
I corrected the statement by saying that Buddy wrote the tune "Buddy's Boogie' while he was with Little Jimmy Dickens

Thanks for the nice comments everyone and it's good to get the real story behind the history of this great instrument and the great players that made what we do possible.
