Changing speakers in Peavey Nashville 112 ? Suggestions ?

I have heard that some people change the speaker in this amp, and if you have done so, what one would you recommend ? Comments are appreciated, pro or con. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

pros- Sounds luscious. Shaved 8 lbs off the 112's weight.

I did the change out to a Emimence EPS-12C . I also did the Fox chips and MOD reverb change . This to me took a good steel amp to a fantastic steel amp. You won't be disappointed.

I like the chip mod (OPA2134 chips) by itself. I tried the Eminence EPS-12C and it was too bright. Possibly the Eminence speaker but NOT the chip mod would work. The chip mod is about $30 and the speaker is about $200.

I have an EPS-15C and it is not too bright, but the 12" EPS-12C, which is supposed to be a 12" version of the 15C is more like a bright guitar speaker than a steel guitar speaker. (I tried two different EPS-12C speakers, one was slightly better than the other).

I have no experience with the Telonics branded version of the Eminence.

I'm confused with your reply. Your first sentence states you like the chip mode, but in your second sentence you do NOT like the chip mode.

Tom, he's just saying that, with the chip mod the EPS-12c was too bright, but may be OK without the mod.

Clarification, The chip mod by itself (my choice), or possibly the Eminence speaker only, but not both.

I can't say if only the Eminence speaker would be a good option in my case. I have the chip mod installed and didn't want to take it out when I tried the two EPS-12C speakers.

I used my Franklin D-10 with Lawrence 710 pickups and a Hilton Volume Pedal when trying the speakers. A different guitar and setup could be different.

I have used 1203-4 BW speakers and the sound is great, more weight but you need to get a good workout any way to keep you in shape.

Hey Larry, I did a swap in my NV112 some time back. I had already installed the Fox mod op-amp chips and then swapped the factory speaker for a 12" Peavey Black Widow (4-ohm model); I think it was same as Larry Behm mentioned. I was not impressed with the change in sound...although it did make the sound a little tighter, I felt I lost some of the bass response I had with the Blue Marvel. I swapped it right back immediately to original stock speaker. I decided that IMHO the Black Widow was not a good substitute in that amp. I think Peavey knew what they were doing in selecting the Blue Marvel (it may be more of a bass guitar speaker and help to reinforce the bass tone in that smaller cabinet) Hope this helps. Right, Larry. I think the chips helped make the sound more definitive, not quite as muddy as before. I seemed to be able to hear more pronounced details in my tone. The Black Widow swap wasn't bad, but it was not what I was looking for, and added several pounds to the overall weight. It seemed to be more tight but punchy in the mid-range. The Peavey Blue Marvel stock speaker seems to be a good overall choice because to me, it opens up the low-end range more and allows for a fuller tone. I have no complaints with the stock speaker. Are there some 12" speakers out there that would be an improvement over the stock one? Almost certainly; but I don't have several hundred dollars to throw around on many possible choices trying to improve on what may be a very slight enhancement in tone...and in the end, it's all pretty subjective anyway.
