I've been thinking hard about trading my D10 for a U12.

A while back someone was telling me about how to get pretty close to a U12 on a E9 neck, I thought I'd try it out before thinking harder about the dark side....

Anyone know what they may have been talking about? It was a way to get the E9 to be a kind of B6.... (BTW I'm on a standard Emmons 8 pedal/5 lever)

Any help is appreciated....

Here are a few kinks where a U10 copedent is discussed.

Before you start changing your tuning and set up look into Herb Steiner's Swinging on E9 courses.

Check out the playing of Randy Beavers or Wayne Dahl. They can play more jazz on a standard E9 neck than most anybody else on any tuning.

Keep in mind that there are only 12 notes in western music. They are there under your fingers already.

What Bob says is true wisdom. There are only 12 notes in the scale and they are all right there already. If you approach a tuning from that perspective all that matters is what fits best for your brain and style of playing.
Reece Anderson told me how he used to play a Bb6 at shows and everyone thought he was playing his U12 tuning. He once played the same song for me on three different tunings and I don't think anyone by ear alone could have known the difference.
So what Bob says is so true, all the notes are there, it is just a matter of learning where.
