Zumsteel?

Can someone tell me where the website or phone # is to custom order one Zumsteel?Are they still in business?I looked for a website but came up with nothing.Thanx

Zumsteel is the only Builder that I can think of that has no Website or even Email...al

The eighth wonder of the world is Bruce Zumsteg. How can he possibly build such a great instrument in no more time than it takes him, while spending hours on the phone talking to the purchaser of the guitar? He gives each client the impression that their's is the only guitar he has in his shop, which is an absurdity. Would a website increase his business? Not unless he could sprout more arms and legs. You go Bruce!

Although I think a TRIBUTE website might be cool with pix of various Zums...

I bought a used Zum and had to change the tuning from a Day to an Emmons. I called Bruce and even though I did not purchase from him he knew the guitar by its markings and after 4 or 5 phone calls I had it perfect. The guitar is the most amazing feat of engineering. Bruce is one of the nicest people i have ever had the pleasure to talk to. He was so helpful and as said earlier in this string it is a wponder how he has any time to build steels when he is so willing to spend time on the phone. What a guy. What a steel. I am so proud to be an owner of a Zum I cannot say it in words.............

I've known Bruce for 23 years now and he is one of the most honest people I know. I've bought three guitars from him and he is always there for you when you need help. Plus he is so interesting to talk with.

I just wish every steel player could hear him play. For years I never even knew he played. Until one year on a Thursday morning at the ISGC, I meandered into the hall and heard the most beautiful sound.

It was so refreshingly beautiful. The timbre and style was outstandingly good. I had no idea where the sound was coming from. As my eyes scanned that room, I saw a small gathering hovered around a steel in the ZumSteel booth.

Still had NO idea it was Bruce. And never even gave it a thought. I could not see who was playing because of the people standing in front of the guitar. First thought it may have been my friend Tommy Dodd. When I finally got close enough to hear who it was that was filling that hall with that awesome sound, I just stood there in unbelief.

And thought to myself, "Why oh Why has this man never been on that stage?" Later I complimented Bruce and he told me, "I learned long ago that I could not play them fast notes, so I just concentrated on the slow stuff".

Well dear Bruce, you can play the slow stuff for me forever! If I never heard another fast lick I would still be exceedingly blessed by hearing your "slowstuff".

May Jesus bless this dear man for what he has given to the steel guitar world, and may he richly bless all of you,

A man after my own heart. I prefer the "slow stuff", therefore I haven't learned to play fast. I'll leave that to the Bluegrass Gospel bass that I play!
I bought a used Zum from Bobbe, and boy do I love it. The sound, in my ears, is just unbelievably good. Stays in tune and is so easy to play. I've owned other top name steels and to me they just didn't compare. Bruce is the greatest!

Bruce got the chance to play for Ray Price on the road about two years ago, just for two or three jobs, that can tell you about how good Bruce can play, he is very fine person, an just make a great guitar. He just does not have the time to take up haveing a comp. Jerry

I would figure that most people put up the site for their guitars because it saves them time, instead of costing more time.

Every person who calls has a few preliminary questions that are probably pretty similar, and just having those answered without taking up the valuable time of the craftsman/craftsmen doing the building seems like a pretty decent idea. (Cost, lead time, deposit requirements, color availability, options list etc.) Everyone's got reasons for doing things their own way, though.
