Does anybody else like the way it sounds (sometimes) to bring the low note of a pair of notes or a chord up to the desired tone first, then ease the treble notes up later? I really like the way it sounds when I "sneak up" on a chord, but when I do it on the whole chord, it just sounds sloppy - by slanting, then straightening the bar, it sounds intentional. BTW, when I'm playing steel chords, I try to arrange that there are no other instruments playing full chords.

This is one of the "bag of tricks" that players can use to add expressiveness to their playing. Like any "trick" use sparingly...

I second Dave's comments. Use it, but don't "overuse" it!

Just make sure you're not fishtailing your vibrato. Fishtailing during vibrato sounds terrible (if you ask me... ).
