Recently, we played a large event and I ran my steel guitar through two 80XL amps. I usually use the JC Clean channel; however, I decided to try out the Black Panel setting on the Lead channel of both amps. I got the tone settings where I wanted them; but, the volume wasn't has high as the JC Clean channel. I finally decided to just crank the volume almost all the way up and then brought up the gain to about 12 o'clock. No distortion at all...just a nice, big, full sound. I was pleased.

I know some of you like using the Black Panel setting on the Lead channel. Tell us how you adjust the Gain and Volume controls.

Gain at 12:00 o'clock and still clean? That's what I noticed.

For max volume, i use the black face, set the volume to 1 or 2 oclock, and the gain around 8 or 9 oclock. Ill up the gain for rven more volume but If im getting distortion on peaks, i pull back the eq and presence till its gone. Eq and presence all end up at 11 oclock or less. No boxes just a volume pedal For now.
