Does anyone have a color picture of Day's original "Blue Darling" from the mid 60's? It was a Sho-Bud D-10, permanent with the Blue sparkle, and a Spade, or other card suit inlay in mother of pearl. This is the guitar one that Shot made for Day.

I worked on this guitar when it was in the Houston area in the early seventies.

Paul, That picture may be the one, would have to confirm there is a card suit: Spade, Club, Heart, or Diamond inlay with mother pearl.

A few years ago I think a Forum member had a story of Shot making some special steels for Day, Emmons and a couple of others with the card symbol inlay. All may have been blue sparkle (or not). Maybe Day called all of his blue guitars "Blue Darling"???

This is my #007 Weenick, built by Martin Weenick in 2010.
One of the best sounding steels I own .
Ask anyone in the FSGC who has heard it played.
By the way I love the tone I get from the Alumitone pickup.

You've achieved something really nice in planar color design, very artful.
The neck really stands out, showing how the top is proportioned. Very cool.

Yes, but Martin's tuning machines are almost all aligned.

Charlie Mc. I guess you are talking about the nylon tuners ??? There is no strings on this guitar yet and the nylon tuners are just stuck on there and turned a couple of turns, that is why they are uneven. Nothing has been adjusted yet. they will all be flush with the inside of the end plate when it's all done. The key head tuners are perfectly aligned. Martin.

Martin... You might be on to something. It's impossible to hit wrong notes, sound out of tune, or sound bad if there are no strings to get in your way.

Yes Richard S. I discovered long ago that learning to play Pedal Steel is a piece of cake as long as there are no strings on it. Martin.

I saw this one for sale online a couple days ago.. it's sold..

I have only seen 2 in this configuration , blue and dark wood necks, one was John Hugheys' and the other originally owned by an old friend who passed away and has previously sold to another friend.

You are indeed right about Buddy Emmons and Rusty Young doing columns in Guitar Player magazine. I think Tom Bradshaw did as well.

I never understood how the magazine went from Bud Eastman, a pedal steel guitarist being in charge to Tom Wheeler who apparently did not have a kind place in his heart for the steel.

I allowed my subscription to lapse and never renewed it. I'm sure GP did fine without my dough. I just could not see supporting the magazine after the rebuff. Glad to see you responded as well. stevet

I also followed every issue of Guitar Player up until Jeff Newman stopped his monthly articles. I then tore out all Jeff's, Buddy's and Rusty's articles and stopped my subscription.
