I tried a Black Widow, a JBL K-130, a couple of the Eminence neo speakers, and I went back to the original. It just lost something when I substituted the speaker.

If you find something that works, let us know. Those things are pretty heavy....

Eps-15

I put an Eminence EPS-15 in mine. I'm happy with the sound. And I am very happy with the 15lbs that it lost! :whoa:
It no longer dents the floor when I roll it...

I swapped a SICA 15" 350 watt 4 ohm into my Steel King, and am very pleased with the sound. It's at least ten pounds lighter than the stock speaker.

Here is a link to one of my earlier posts about swapping out the speakers on both my Fender Steel King and my Evans FET-500LV ---> Click Here

There are only two options as I see it.
Either I'm right, or there is a sinister conspiracy to conceal the fact that I'm right.

Fsk

Dana'

If you like the sound of the FSK as it comes from Fender, you will not get the same sound with any other speaker.
The weight is a problem but all you need do is put the head in a cabinet by itself and leave the speaker in the cabinet. Works very well and is MUCH easier to handle. IMO if you like the FSK that is your only option to maintain the origional sound of that amp. I have done that and it works great.

Fred, I'm curious to know what other speakers you tried with your Fender Steel King.

I have tried the Epc15, the 1501BW and a 12" blue Marvel from a NV112. Actually, for my taste the Blue Marvel sounded better to me than the others. None of them had the what ever it is that the stock speaker makes me like.
Just my experience and opinion. others may disagree.
