Round-wound guitar strings, or is there something better?

Murray,

I've also had good luck with GHS semi-flat wound strings, which I've only been able to find at Stew-Mac. They tend to have less bar noise than round wound strings. www.stewmac.com/

D'addario bronze Semi-flat (I think with Jerry Douglas' name on them) seem to be in most "acoustic music" oriented stores.

Murray, are you using a magnetic pickup? If so, don't get bronze. Get nickle.

I have been using Beard Special 29's on my old Dobro -- gages are from 0.18" to 0.0.058", I think. I like them better than the Pearse or D'Addario strings that I'd used before, because of the manly gauges. They are roundwound. The sound is very loud and solid, and -- no matter how hard you push down on the bar -- you won't accidentally "bottom out" on the fretboard.
