I’m helping a friend who needs a permanent steel player for his band...good folks, grownups (probably late 30’s or so), now gigging at good venues in PDX, but not overly much, no touring, definitely country/alt country, but likes to rock out now and then…mix of great originals and classic covers..practice roughly once a week in PDX. Now has guitar, fiddle, bass/drums, temp. steel player, 3 singers (2 male, one female).
Any money earned would probably go into a recording fund - so it is more for someone who wants a permanent band gig, with a record being produced, with money perhaps at some later date...the band hopes to keep upping the level of gigs and venues, and establish themselves as a premier band around Portland.
The original tunes are built up cooperatively by the band - band leader contributing words and chords, but the feel, riffs, and sound are contributed by the players.
The player doesn't have to be all-around accomplished at this point - just have decent tone and be able to learn a set's worth of tunes - a great way for a fairly new player to get going....although a truly accomplished player would be welcomed - the other folks are top-notch.
More details on request... slipsey@alum.mit.edu

Well...that is why I mentioned that this is a good opportunity for an "up and coming" player..
And some folks still would rather be part of an ongoing project that will create new music that has some chance of greater recognition, than being a "hired gun" for the money...
We each get to decide what we want out of life, I guess...

That is why I also posted in "Steel Players", saying that it wasn't really a "job", more like a "gig", or perhaps a "calling", but I wasn't sure where to post it.
Certainly, if you don't think it applies to you, you can just ignore it, right? I wasn't intending to malign anybody's feeling of self-worth...

Posting here is correct.
"Jobs" can be volunteer, or unpaid.
Stating the conditions in the original post makes it even more proper.
This "job" could be ideal for the right person.
We've all been there.

Steel Jam at Jubitz truck stop in North Portland
The steel jam in Portland first Sunday in May would be a good place to spread the word. They usually have a large turn out and Larry Behm is the moderator. Tell him Neil sent ya'!! God bless!
