Anyone try one of these ? I'm looking for the Leslie sound on the cheap. I know it's been discussed, but I'm trying not to spring for a B9 AND a Leslie simulator. Would I do better with only a B9 ? Trying to get by without spending too much. Any idea for a Leslie sound on a budget, or am I dreaming ?

Yeah, I picked up one of these on one of those Musicians Friend Stupid Deals of the Day last fall for something like $50 or $60. I like it. OK, it's not a Leslie - I have two real Leslies, one real Leslie with my Hammond A100 and one made from Leslie 145 parts in a smaller portable cab. And the Soul Vibe ain't a Leslie. It's more like a cheap Univibe without a foot-pedal speed control. But in a band mix, it sounds good for that sort of Jimi/Trower type of thing. It can get as slow as you want for the Bridge of Sighs type of thing.

But it is not a B3 simulator. I have a Pog 2 and it sounds good with that, but the Pog is very church-organ-like, not so much B3.

I used to haul around a Leslie 18 (portable Fender-made Leslie with just the baffle) and had a Roland synth with the hex pickup. Now THAT turned heads - way more than once, people were craning their necks looking for the B3 in the band. I ultimately gave up because people busted my b***s because it "didn't look right" to have that sound coming out of a guitar/steel.

Steve, I am using a Mini-vent pedal. Not cheap (about $250 - $300) on ebay, over $300 new from the big box music stores. But, it is the most user friendly, authentic simulation pedal that I know of, with just 2 settings: on/off, and slow/fast. Very real leslie sound with emphasis on the highs.

Behringer makes one of the most inexpensive pedals, although you might have to listen to one on YouTube.

The Soul-vibe pedal didn't give me anywhere near a Leslie rotary tone, even though the title says it did.

In my opinion, the best you will get for the money will be the rotary setting on a Line 6 POD, which are sold quite inexpensive now days. It's a very warm, true leslie sound, warmer even than the Mini-vent.

Erv is right. Those are good units. I liked mine for the ease of use and being half the size, but I believe the "Leslie's" have the best reviews. This pedal will not meet your price preference, but it is worth the sacrifice to have a worthy tone. I have well over $1k invested in 6 pedals on my board.

If you really want to see an industrial strength Leslie, take a gander at this baby:

The Zoom G50 has a rotary simulator. Not the best, but I would bet more realistic than the BBE. $70 used and you get 99 other effects. I recently just got the Tech 21 Roto Choir. Very nice unit, but even with a 20% off MF coupon, still $175.

Thank you all for all the replies. It sounds like thumbs down on the BBE.

Looks like you need to spend some cash to get a more authentic sound, but for a once or twice a night , I may be willing to compromise . I appreciate all alternatives to the most expensive options. It seems more Practical.

Any other rotary speaker options that won't break the bank ?
