Sol Hoopii songs I can't find.

Post by Jim Campbell »

So, I've been trying to track down as complete a collection of sol hoopii tracks as I can. From 78s, compilations, CDs mp3s, youtube etc. Using a database of 78s as my guide, I think I know the only tracks I am missing. If anyone here collects 78s, maybe you can help! I only want digital copies, (I don't need the actual 78 records). In exchange for copies I'd be glad to share the rare recordings I have already tracked down. It's a long shot, these are really rare records, but I thought some of you lap steel players on this forum might have leads...

These are the only records I can't find:
On Columbia:
Ua Like No Alike / He aloha no Kauiki
Kuu Leialoha /Kuu Lei poina Ole
On Regal:
(Trio Hawaiiano de Hoopii)
Negra Consentida/Caminito Azul (111803/111804)

Hi Jim,
Bud Tutmarc had all of Sol Ho'opii's recordings. Bud is now deceased but his son, Greg Tutmarc would probably have all of the recordings that you wish for.

His email is gtutmarc@gmail.com

Good luck!

I was researchng Gerswhin music lately in connection with a show I attended featuring the Gerwshin brothers', "Nice Work If You Can Get It" and came across this by Sol Ho'opii. As you will note Sol did not restrict himself to Hawaiian tunes only. I do not know if you already have this, but just in case..

I wish I could help. I love those tunes and his playing, unfortunately my dad mostly had his Gospel tunes.

Thanks Kay! Yeah I've got it. the ones above are the only ones I am missing that I know of.

Jim Myers, I have a lot of the religious records too. I may have all of them but it's hard to find a good discoraphy of those so I don't know for sure.. Do you know which record labels they are? I have all the Eldee records ones for sure..

I just have one that is not Eldee and it's on Sacred Records.

Isle of Golden Dreams
Train Song

The record looks pretty bad and I haven't listened to it but if you're interested I'll dig out my 78 player and see what I can do about digitizing it.

On Eldee

Hilo March
Hawaiian Paradise
No one ever cared for me like Jesus
Honolulu March
End of the Trail
The Train song
Preach the Word
He Keeps Me Singing
Healer of Broken Hearts
The Old Rugged Cross
D8 Hollow neck acoustic.
