Shobud built about 4,400 Artists for Fender in the mid 1970's. They have the pot metal Super pro undercarriage parts underneath. I have a D-10 and it's real nice. They made S-10 pro models and student models as well. _________________ Dave Zirbel-

As Dave said, they are basically a Super Pro, but there are a few differences.. The changer and mount is different, the keyhead is the old Fender "pan style", and I think the endplates are different.. I might be mistaken, but I thought the pickups were different as well. I always thought Fender made the pickups for these guitars as they do have a more "vintage Fender" sound than Buds of the same era...... bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

They weren't really rare, with thousands of them having been made, but it was rare that you saw any pro playing one. And if they did, it was only for a very short while.
I can't explain that, but maybe some of the "pros" can? |

Donny.. This is only my opinion for whatever its worth... From what I have read here on SGF over the years, guys weren't all that thrilled with the sound.. Too bright and twangy.. Brighter than a Bud I guess..
Also, most hard core Bud guys don't play the Super Pro guitars either, as the pot metal undercarriage wasn't really highly regarded by many players.. Just my $.02 for whatever its worth... bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

here's an S10 Artist "wood body" I recently sold, it was a fine playing and sounding guitar and the only reason I sold it was because I ran across a Sho Bud Pro I which I wanted, basically the same guitars. 3+4. The cast pullers were kinda the weak part on all the Sho Buds in this era.
I would buy another Artist in a NY minute if I wanted another S10.

I agree Bob, they definitely have a brighter sound than a 'Bud. But then again, so do the ZB's, and quite a few famous players played ZB's for a long time.
I dunno, it always kinda irked me that Fender got out of the steel business. |
