Push Pull guide and personal assistance

Post by Sven Kontio »

I feel obligated to share with you all what Ive learned over the past years and let you take advantage of the same priceless and invaluable resource available:

First: Clem Schmitz´s booklet "Methodology and practise in Pedal Steel Guitar" which is a unique insight in the Emmons pushpull assembly. This booklet can be bought with or without two dvd´s, but with the dvd´s is the better buy.
The package is only $20 plus $4 postage (US).
Clem, who has been working on these guitars for 40+ years wrote this booklet in 1983 and it´s still probably the best resource available if you want to understand your pushpull.
To buy the book or the package, just email Clem at freedomsauce at comcast dot net.

Second: Clem, residing in Mn, offers hands on repairs on your pp, AND ALSO Skype video assistance if you want to do the work yourself but need the Eyes, Brains and Knowledge of a true pp mechanic extraordinaire to assist you in your work.
For a very resonable amount he will gladly help you to adjust your guitar to perfection. Or if you just want to make sure your guitar is in perfect shape it could be a good idea to contact him.
Again: Just email him at freedomsauce at comcast dot net and he´ll be happy to help you! :D

I did, and I don´t regret it! ;-)

I have the book but didn't know there were DVDs for it too. What kind of stuff is on them?

Jim, I do apologize for my extremely late response. The dvd's show how to assemble a pp from empty undercarriage to fully functional instrument, as I remember (it's been some time since I watched them). They make a good add-on to the booklet you have. You can order the dvd's from Clem.

Just sat down and watched the DVD´s again and found they were even more educating than I remembered.
Not only does Clem show and explain tuning the changer, installing all rods, bellcranks, springs, collars, drop return springs aso. But he also hands out lots of tips and tricks for you!

The thing about owning a PP is understanding how it works. Order the booklet and dvd´s and you´ll be good to go!

Agreed! In my opinion, Clem knows these guitars better than anyone. And he keeps coming up with ideas on how to improve them.

Ron,
Thanks for kind words.
Clem, as we both know, is THE resource as far as knowledge of the PushPulls.

No PP-owner should be w/o Clem´s booklet and DVDs.
