There's nothing in L.A. The closest would probably be Blackie Taylor in Riverside, which is atleast an hour east of Los Angeles. |

Sadly, true. There is no "specialty" store for steel guitar; not like Steel Guitar Nashville or Billy Cooper's.
If you are interested in saving the international shipping, etc, and have enough time, you might be able to order a seat from one of the usual vendors (listed here on the site) and have it Fed Exed to your hotel or wherever you are staying...
If you are in LA on Monday 5/31, you can hear some tasty steel playing by Gary Brandin with Patty Booker at The Cinema bar; 3967 Sepulveda Blvd. between Venice Blvd. and Washington Place. He's got a killer P/P Emmons. (Best to confirm the time with the club: 310-390-1328) He's also playing with the Blue Hawaiians at the Lava Lounge in Hollywood on Friday 5/28... |

From the early 70s,along with Red Rhodes' shop in Hollywood,Valley Arts was THE place for steel guitars, parts, repairs, lessons and everything else associated with the instrument. Sometime in the late 80s I think,it was gutted by fire and that was it. I lost an instrument in that fire which I had in there on consignment,BTW. Now all of us L.A. guys either trade amongst ourselves, deal thru mail order directly with instrument and accessory manufacturers or are obliged to depend on this forum,Scottys,Bobbe Seymore, the recycler and E-Bay for pretty much everything. Blackies is a rather small operation and a little ways out of L.A. but he might just have what you need. It's certainly worth a call(there's a link on this forum under vendors).I bought a nice 65 Fender Stringmaster D-8 from him a few years ago for a quite reasonable price. -MJ- |

I seem to recall that if you aren't able to park in the parking lot at the club, be careful where you do park, as towing has been known to occur... |
