I have played an Emmons Push Pull for years and have certainly sung the praises of them!
But, I will have to admit, that after playing a 6 month old Emmons LeGrande II, I could be persuaded to change. It is hard to say this, but I am not sure that the tonal difference is worth sacrificing the ease of play the II offers.
Am I getting old? Deaf? Could I ever live it down? |

Reggie, I have a LeGrande III that sounds great to my ears. Several years ago I had a push-pull and that was the best sound I have ever had from a steel. I have kicked myself many times for getting rid of that steel. The LeGrande III that I have plays great but I do not believe you would be happy if you traded, especially since you have such a great sound with your push-pull. Bobbe Seymore told me there were 7 things that made the push-pull guitars sound as good as they do but the LeGrande models have only 6 out of the 7. I have heard your steel on a copule of sound clips and it does sound great. You certainly have a difficult decision and I wish you all the best. |

Reggie,
If you can get a tone out of a Legrande like the tone on your PP on that video clip you put up a while back, play the Legrande. In my humble opinion, I don't think an all-pull steel has the clarity of a PP.

I have owned 3 PP Emmons in my lifetime. and One of them sounded GREAT, I'll have to admit, but the other two did not sound as good and one was even BLACK.
I never like the mechanics, for my tunings.
I believe there are many All Pull guitars out now with a Great sound with the right Amp.......al

Reggie and Carl,
I'm tellin' you guys,,,if a push pull is set up correctly,,,it will play as easy as most all pull guitars and better than most. It will also have great medium short action. You'll just have to trust me on this. They really will!!!

Reggie, I have an Emmons PP and a LeGrande II and compare them often. Both guitars have the characteristic Emmons sound and I love them both. I have several other brand guitars and none them have this sound. I'm not saying this is bad, I'm only saying they have their own character and don't sound like an Emmons. Which guitar do I gig with? I always take the Legrande II because of its sound and ease of use. If I had to choose only one guitar which one would It be? The push pull does have that magical sound that no other guitar has, but the all pull Legrande II is a great sounding guitar with the characteristic Emmons tone, very easy to work on and plays great. That's a combination that's hard to beat in my book.

Billy, those are my sentiments exactly! Nothing that I have played sounds like an Emmons, accept an Emmons, at least in my feeble hands. The all-pull Emmons guitars have "that sound" in a LeGrande sort of way.

I like the feel of a Push-Pull mainly because it's seems more solid, but I also have a LeGrande III and it's a jewel! Nick

Reggie we all enjoy your sound clips.Sooo just for kicks. Why don't you post one of the PP and one of the LII?Same song.Work the whole neck of the guitar and let us see if we can guess which is the PP and which is the LII. Regards...............bb |

Reggie - You probably know best, but I can tell you my experiences made me regret getting rid of two really good guitars for ones that I thought were better. Why not keep the P-P and get the LG II as well? At least until you know if there's a clear choice. But, you are the man!

On recent recording sessions, I have used a push pull directly in to the board, and a Legrande III thru a Walker rig. I have those samples, but I am not sure that would give us a true comparison. I really like them both. The best test, of course, would be to play the same thing thru the same amplification.
As a side note, I played a push pull with an L710 and did not like it nearly as much as the stock pickup. Conversley, I played the same guitar later with a PF1 pup and LOVED IT! I still use the stock pup in my PP. |

I could email them to you Bob...I don't have web space to put them on. Country Village Opry, where I play on Fridays, has a site but it wouldn't be the place to post them. |

Guys,
If you haven't heard Reggie's P/P, go here:
http://www.countryvillage.com/band1.mpeg
Even though this is from a consumer camcorder, live, and compressed for the net, this exemplifies *THAT* tone. No other guitar in the world has it. Of course, Reggie's wonderful touch and technique just brings out the best these magic guitars have to offer. (Geez, I sound like Bobbe
