Tab Request: Studio Version of Ooh Las Vegas (Al Perkins)

Post by Travis Lyon »

Holy cow I had thought the first solo was James Burton for all these years on a telecaster and that first comment finally made me realize it's a steel.

My mistake Markus! I jumped the gun on this post.

This cut is Hank DeVito from Elite Hotel by Emmylou Harris (1975).

Both takes have really great steel breaks! According to wikipedia, Al Perkins played steel guitar.
I guess, Al used a 11-string with an ext. E9-tuning. The copedant is displayed in Winnie Winstons book. String 11 is a low E which can be further lowered to D by a lever...
this would explain the low pickup-note (low D)...

Here is Al Perkins' Solo:
Beautiful, fully packed w/ hot licks and in a challenging tempo!
I tabbed it out for U-12! With a few adaptions it will work on ext. E9 as well...You in any case would need a low E string which can be further lowered to D!
Notice the hot Boogie Riff at the end, i love it!

I'd be lucky for any feedback and/or any corrections and adaptions!
Cheers!

Thanks for this. One of my all time favorites!
In trying it out, I ran across a different way to play the A7 stuff. At the 10th fret with B/LKR you get all the dominant 7th notes and can rock the B pedal for that bend he does in the phrase. See how you like that.

John, guess you are right! Thank you for that hint!

Fret 10 w/E-lower and B-pedal is the more ovious position for A7-stuff.
However it somehow sounds like he would slide from f# into the g-note with the B-pedal engaged, instead of using the B-pedal for the bend, cause i'm hearing some movement in the tritone below on the c->c# notes too...
Anyway, what a break, i guess it will take a year to get that onto full tempo...
