Topic: Raise in battle with lower |

I was in process of putting the Franklin B
lowers on my Super Pro when the 5th string
would not lower. The 10th was fine but the
raise finger is moving with the lower. Don't
see any visable binding in the finger or the
rods. Any ideas. |

Yes, two.
Try to hold the raise finger still while you manually push the lower lever. If you can't hold it (they're locked solidly together), then there's binding, or there's something lodged in the changer, like a string-end. Depending on how hard it's jammed, you may have to remove the changer, or parts of it, to free the jam.
Second, try lowering the return-spring tension. On many changers, if the lower return spring is too tight, the lowering lever will actually activate the raise lever, severely limiting the lowering capabilities.[This message was edited by Donny Hinson on 19 May 2004 at 04:46 PM.] |

Chuck what is happening on those SuperPro fingers...is when you look at it upside down...and lower the string..watch that lower spring stretch and look at what it hits>>>ha.....yep it hits the little folcrom piece that sticks up from the raise side of the finger and will start to push it as that spring stretches further.
Sooooo; there are a few fixes...ha...
You can try stretching the hook part of the spring..so when the lower happens....then the coil part of the spring won't quite make it to that piece of metal sticking up.
Or you can widdle off that piece of metal with a file or sheer it off. Or you can change a finger with one that does not stick up and put that finger on a change that doesn't lower.

I can push the fingers seperately and there is no problem but when I pull them with the
rod. The rod is not binding and I don't see
a problem with the spring catching. |

Chuck if there is a raise spring on that 5th string finger(that is the little spring against the bottom of the steel hooked to the raised portion)...then Unhook it and see if that don't help.
If there is not a raise spring...then keep checkin it out...you'll figure it out eventually...I on the other hand would have to see it to figure it out.

Ricky is correct. In fact, any string that lowers should not have a ‘helper-spring’ connected to the Raise. This defeats the Lowering process by, in effect; putting artificial-tension on the string!
