Try an Eminence EPS-12C neodymium speaker. It has the highs and mids but also the lows for pedal steel. Its the 12" version of the EPS-15C 15" speaker. Tommy White and many others are using the EPS-12C in NV112's. |

I just installed the EPC-12c speaker in my 112 today. I also installed the MOD reverb . What a difference it made. It does not even sound like the same amp. I want to thank Jim Cooley , who I met on the Forum who has gave me some pointers . This 112 is now a fantastic amp to my ears. Can anyone add to installing the Ken Fox chips as to what I can expect after installing them ?? |

I replaced the amp chips in my 112 with a vastly improved model (frankly can't remember the type just now; but similar in specs to the ones that Ken Fox uses in his kits). I think I hear difference. Hard to put it into words, but maybe things sound "firmer" or "clearer"?
I think opinions differ on whether the change is an improvement or not. I remember asking Al Brisco about it one day and he said it was a complete waste of effort and he preferred the originals. Lots of folks like the change.
I keep thinking I should put the Eminence speaker in mine. I'm sure it will make a HUGE difference in sound compared to changing the op-amps.

Not sure I noticed any tone change when I put newer opamps in but they generate a lot less internal noise than the original equipment chips and if you buy them in bulk they're less than $0.11 apiece.
The speaker change, as you've discovered, is a major improvement. Nothing subtle about that! |

I tried an EPS-12C in my modded NV112. With the op-amp chip mod the speaker isn't needed. I took the EPS-12C out and put the original speaker back in and sold the EPS-12C. |

Which Black Widow?
I had a pair of 1203-8s that I wasn't crazy about (similar to what you described), so I replaced them with 1201-8s (not in a NV112). I've often wondered what the 1201-8s would sound like in a 112. |
